New Lip Colors

Hey everybody! Sorry it's been awhile since I posted - life's been pretty hectic recently!

About two weeks ago I purchased three new lip colors, gloss', lipsticks, whatever you want to call them. I've been meaning to take pictures and show them to you and today I finally got around to doing that!

So this first one I purchased is called Baby Lips Dr. Rescue and it's in the color "Coral Crave". I absolutely love this the color and the way it makes my lips feel. It's not as orange in real life as it looks in this picture. It has more pink tones to it in person. There is really no color to it when you apply it to your lips. It does have a gloss to it so your lips will be shiny. It really does help hydrate and moisturize my lips. They are left feeling smooth and healthy!

The next one I bought is a Maybelline Color Whisper in the color "Rose of Attraction". This one is showing up darker in the picture but in person it's a nice pink color with a hint of red. There is also some shimmer to it but that doesn't really show up on your lips when you put it on. There wasn't much color to it when I put it on. It just slightly made my lips a bit more red and also a tad bit glossier. They make a lot of colors in the Color Whisper collection so I definitely want to go back and try some more colors.

The last one I bought is another one by Maybelline and it's in the Color Sensational line. It's the color "Are You Red-dy" - oh so clever! I've been wanting to get a red lipstick for awhile now and right before Valentine's Day I decided to purchase one. I think my lighting was throwing off the colors tonight because this makes it look lighter in color then it really is and it doesn't have that much orange to it. In person and on the lips it's a much deeper richer red color. I will say though, when you put it on your lips it does have a hint more orange to it then when you look at it in the tube. It went on very nicely and I think that it would be a nice color to wear if you're going on a date or somewhere more formal.

I bought all these items at Target and the Baby Lips cost me $3.49, the Color Whisper cost me $4.99, and the Color Sensational cost me around $5.00 as well. So they didn't break the bank and I do think they are well made, high quality products that I would recommend anyone purchase. I'll post the links down below to Target's website so you can go online and look at the other colors available as well as purchase them online if you choose to do that too!

Love is in the Air

Hey guys!! You only have 3 days left until Valentines Day so you better not wait to much longer to tell those special guys or gals your true loving feelings for them.

Every Valentines Day is the same for Ross and I. We usually just go to dinner somewhere and then catch a movie. However; there are so many other things that couples can do that cost the same and sometimes even less then dinner and a movie. This post will be more for couples or people who have someone to go out with on V-day. Not having a boyfriend/girlfriend or someone to go out with doesn't mean you can't have a good day. Send yourself flower for heavens sake - so what if people think it's stupid. I LOVE buying myself flowers, simply because I like them. Yeah it's nice to get them from someone else but if you like flowers then buy yourself flowers! Also, don't be afraid to go eat dinner somewhere nice and splurge a little on yourself. Don't let what other people think of you stop you from living your life. Just go in with your head held high and get that table for 1. Just go out and enjoy the evening with yourself. Let it be a day of pampering for yourself!

Back to the point of this post.. V-day date ideas! I'm not going to put in the same boring ones that everyone always thinks of (movies, dinner, night in watching Netflix, etc.) Although those are fun and that's probably what we will do that isn't what this post is for. This is for those of you who are looking for something new to spice up the night.

1. Go ice skating!
Even though I can't ice skate I still love going because it's something I can do with Ross that is free from technology and we can just enjoy each others company. It's not at all expensive so if your determined to go out for dinner you could just swap the movie for the ice skating. At our local ice skating rink the price is $5.00 per person to skate with a $2.75 charge for skate rental. That's not a bad price considering you can skate for an unlimited amount of time (until they close of course.)

2. Paint & Sip
If you're a more creative couple then search your area for a paint and sip class. I didn't think we had one around the area until I searched Google and found one right down the street from us! If you're not sure what paint & sip is it's where you go in with your favorite wine, beer, or even soda and you paint a picture on canvas while following along with the instructor. It's super simple and so much fun! They provide the canvas, paints, brushes, and apron. The prices can vary depending on which picture they are painting the night you choose to go. The night we went the price was $35 per person. It was so worth it though. If you're in the Ames area click HERE and it will send you to the paint & sip website located in Ames. If you're in the Iowa City area click HERE and it will send you to that website.

3. Enjoy a musical, play, or concert
Since V-day is on a Friday this year there will be plenty of opportunities to go see a musical or play. The prices for these types of things can range from free up into the hundreds of dollars. Check out your local theatre or events center's website and see what they have playing this weekend. Ames has a place called the Iowa State Center and on V-day there will be 2 bluegrass bands playing together. There will also be free wine and chocolate sampling. The price for tickets for that show range from $39.95 - $47.85. People under the age of 18 the ticket prices are $28.75.

4. Go skiing, snowboarding, or tubing
These are always fun to do but only if you're wanting something to do that doesn't include spending every minute with your date. You're going to be going downhill at different times and possibly learning the basics of these things at different rates. If I had to choose one to do I would definitely choose tubing. You can both ride the tube at the same time and it's easier then sledding because you don't have to walk back up the hill. Just hook your tube onto the hook and you get pulled back up. In the Des Moines area? Click HERE for more information. A tubing/zipfy (zipfy is a type of sledding) 2 hour combo pass is $18 per person. Skiing/snowboarding 2 hour combo pass is $30 for a lift ticket and $15 for either a ski or snowboard rental. This activity is a bit pricier then the others but if you add together how much you spend on dinner AND a movie it probably comes out to about the same price.

5. Wine tasting
If your a wine lover (and of legal age) this would be a great date night idea. Visit your local winery or even ask a local restaurant if you could do sampling of their wine. Here in Ames there is a placed called Della Viti. You go in and purchase a wine card and then you swipe the card at machine where the wine you want to taste is located. It will subtract the money from the card based on the serving size you choose. You can choose between a taste, a half glass, or a full glass (5 ounces). They also have a full service bar if you're not that into wine but you went because your date loves it and you're a nice person. Want to check out their site? Click HERE for more info!

I really hope these ideas help some of you when deciding what your plans will be for that day/evening. If dinner and a movie is still your thing though by all means keep doing that. There is nothing wrong with some old fashioned dates. I know that Ross would much rather sit inside all day long, curl up in a blanket together, and watch Netflix (not old fashioned but you get the point) then do any of the things I mentioned above. These were just some ideas for those of you who do want to spice it up a bit.

XOXO

Make-Me-Up

Hey everyone! I hope your weekend has been great so far. Today's the last day so get out there and do what you do best. Whether that's worshipping, sleeping, watching the Olympics, or going out and playing in this lovely (sarcasm) snow we have. Enjoy this day doing what you love with the ones that you love! Lord knows I will be cuddled up on the couch with a hot drink in my hand watching the season premiere of The Walking Dead!!

Today's post will be a little different then normal but I figured I'd mix it up a little. The picture below is of me after I applied makeup for the first time in about.. A year :/

The items I used were:
Elf Flawless Finish Foundation in the color Sand (Target)
Milani face powder in the color 03 medium (Target)
Lorac blush in the color plum (Gifted)
Lorac eye shadow palette in the color 3099-unzip (Gifted)
Maybelline Rocket Volum' Express mascara in black (Target)
The brushes I used were all Elf brushes that I bought at Target

I first used the foundation brush (middle one) to apply the foundation all over my fave and made sure to blend down onto my neck.
Then I took the big fluffy brush and applied the face powder everywhere.
I used that same brush and applied the blush to the apples of my cheeks.
I switched to the eyeshadow brush (bottom one) and applied the top left cream color eyeshadow to my brow bone, inner corners if my eyes, and right under my lower lash line to brighten up my eyes.
I then took the bottom left color and applied it over my entire lid.
I used the darkest color (bottom right) in the crease of my lid.
I used the eyelash curler on my lashes and then applied two coats of the mascara to my top and bottom lashes.

I didn't add anything to my lips because honestly, I didn't have anything to add. I have a bunch of chap stick but that isn't going to do anything but make my lips shinier. I really need to update my lipgloss/lipstick collection because I have always wanted to try a red lipstick for when Ross & I decide to go on a date to a nicer restaurant. I may purchase some before Valentine's Day and then I will put up a post on my Valentine's Date Night makeup.
What do you guys recommend for lipgloss or lipstick. I've never been a fan of lipstick because it always feels dry on my lips. Let me know if you guys like anything that isn't dry feeling and possibly any lip stains that you think I'll like.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. I wanted to do something a little different then the usual posts. Comment below and let me know what you thought. Advice, suggestions, tips, tricks?

Perfect Storm

Happy Friday Everyone!

My life recently has been a whirlwind of craziness. I don't even know where to start this post at because there are so many things I want to say but I'm not quite sure how to say them all while still making everything make sense together.

Let's just start from the beginning. I won't go into too much detail on this one for obvious reasons but where I work can get very hectic. Two weeks ago while I was working, while already stressed may I add, there was a customer that wasn't being the nicest man in the world. After a string of events happened it eventually led him to asking for the manager and calling me a liar and basically saying I suck at my job. All the while another customer was in line behind him and had to witness all of this. My supervisor said she would refund his money but he said no he didn't mind paying and he stormed out of the building. I was literally on the verge of crying because I was so upset. I managed to squeeze out the words I'm sorry to my supervisor without crying. Apparently that wasn't enough because she grumbled and walked off without saying a word. Later that night I walked up to another employee to ask a question and I noticed my supervisor had that man's receipt out and they were whispering to each other. Once they saw I was standing there they did that hush hush thing, you know when the person you're talking about suddenly is standing right by you. Needless to say I did not have a very good night the rest of the time I was there.

I don't want to speak badly about the supervisors there because most of them have been very helpful and nice to me however this one supervisor I swear has it out for me. I really am fed up with it but I know that if I talk to another supervisor that things won't get changed. She will probably treat me worse when she finds out I complained about her. I understand that I should have paid more attention to him and to what I was doing but there was no reason to call me a liar to basically say I suck at my job. I also feel that it was very unprofessional for my supervisor to speak about me and my mishap behind my back. Neither her nor any other supervisor spoke with me about the incident but I feel that if she had to keep the receipt and speak with other employees about it then it should have been brought to my attention first. I'm kind of lost as to what I should do in this situation. I really like the job and the environment but I just can't deal with that much longer. What do you guys think I should do?

So that's what happened 2 weeks ago and here's what happened this week. Monday evening me and Ross went to leave the school's commuter parking lot and our car was dead. A friend of ours jump started us and we were off and moving again. Tuesday morning I scheduled an appointment to get my hair dyed. We go outside to leave.. dead car again. A girl happened to see we needed a jump and helped us get hooked up to her car. Unfortunately it wasn't charging the battery so we assumed the battery was completely dead and we had to get a new one. So last night Ross' brother-in-law came to Ames and put the new battery in for us (it was dark, negative temperatures, and the batter in a 1993 Lumina is underneath the air filer AND the windshield washer tank. It took them a few hours to do the job. We're so lucky to have great family members.) They got the battery in and the car started up. This morning we went out and started the car just fine. I was going to drop Ross off at his class and head to the salon since I had scheduled another appointment for my hair today since I wasn't able to go on Tuesday. We get to campus and as I'm slowing down for a stop sign the car dies.. I get to the stop sign, put it in park, and try to start it. It turns over like it's trying to start but it doesn't. Meanwhile there is a bus behind us with students trying to get to class. We are on a slight uphill and when I get out and try to push the car with Ross it doesn't budge. A guy comes over and tried to help push it but that doesn't get us very far. Luckily another guy gets off the bus and helps us push the car onto a side street. I don't know who you are but thank you thank you thank you!!

We try starting a couple more times..nothing! So we call a tow truck. ONE HOUR later and I ride back with him and we bring the car back to the apartment. We still have no idea what's wrong with it but luckily a friend of ours is letting us use his car so we can get back and forth to work and school (did I mention I also had great friends as well.) We usually get the cheap gas (which contains a lot of water) and we haven't put any heet in it recently so we think it might be frozen and isn't able to move through the pipes. We are waiting a couple days and seeing if it works itself out.

So that's where I am in life right now. Stuck, literally and figuratively. I know that if I pray about it I will get answers but if you know me you'll know that I am NOT a patient person. So please, if any of you have ideas as to what could be wrong with our car OR advice about my current job situation please please please let me know.

I'm sorry this post was so long guys. It was more of a rant actually. I promise I will have happier stuff up tomorrow so please keep checking back! Head over and like the Facebook page I have set up for the blog. I always post on there when I have a new post up so you will be notified that way!

Oh the places you'll go

As a young person in this day and age we have so many new opportunities that people back in the day didn't have. So why are we not taking this time to live our lives to the fullest and just be happy? I don't know about you guys but I hate school. I hate attending classes, doing homework, and listening to lectures. If I could bypass school and just work and do what I love I would jump on that train and ride it into the sunset. Unfortunately that's not an option so I guess I'm stuck in school for another year.

That doesn't mean that we should stop living and experiencing new things. The world is so much larger then just the state you live in. We should be taking every chance we get to explore the world, learn new things about this earth we live on, and even learn new things about ourselves. There is a girl I know who traveled to Macau to teach. She left everything and everyone she knew behind and just followed where God was taking her. I've been reading her blog posts religiously and she has learned so much about not only the new cultures and people but also about herself. I'm so jealous of her and what she gets to experience but also so incredibly happy for her that she is taking this time while she's young to explore, learn, and grow.

All of us should be more like this young woman. We don't even have to travel around the world to do it. Just take a road trip for the weekend. Just take off work, pack your bags, and go. You don't have to have a destination, just drive until you find something you love. Trust me, there will always be something new in this world that will amaze you anywhere you go. Instead of going to Florida to party for Spring Break (you can party anywhere, you don't need to spend tons of money to do that) try going somewhere like The Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, or an art museum. I know not everyone enjoys those types of things but that's ok. There is more to life then meets the eye. Sometimes people are so scared to leave what they know and are comfortable with that miss out on amazing things.

It's not just you guys though, I have the same problem. I need to start experiencing life and learning and growing. For Spring Break this year I think I'm going to visit Chicago. I know it's not the greatest place on earth but I want to see their art and museums. I'm in love with those types of things and I really hope I can work myself into a situation that will allow me to go.

So please, to all you young and even older people for that matter, go out and enjoy life. Whether it's a long trip or short, by car or by plane. It doesn't matter, just get out there and see all the wonders the world has to offer.
